Do you DeInterlace? Is It a Bad Thing?

I use FCP to cut my work. I am shooting in 24p, I noticed frame by frame the blended frames and wondered if I should be deinterlacing them. It looks smoother once I deinterlace, just wondering how this is effecting the footage.

Is it something I should or shouldnt be doing?

Thanks

isn't that defeating the purpose of shooting in 24p to begin with? From my understanding (i'm new to the DVX as well) 24p is a progressive mode way to shoot images as compared to 60i "normal video" the "i" standing for interlaced. Is there someone that can explain this again? or the both of us can just research on this site, the answer is on this site for sure.

Do not de-interlace. I'm assuming you broaught in 24p staright and are using it in 29.97 timeline.
The interlacing you're seeing is making it playback smoother on video (not your computer) If you deinterlace you'll lose quality and it may stutter on video (somewhat like recording 24pa for 29.97 video)

For any 24 footage converted to true 24 there shouldn't be any interlacing.

Re: Do you DeInterlace? Is It a Bad Thing?

the only reason to de-interlace is if you shot 60i and want the fields to be progressive(60p. . .well almost), although resolution will go slightly down as a result.

i too was told to use no interlacing in sorenson squeeze cuz avid already does when you export to qtp.
