do you clear your scratch disk regularly?

simple question. I run a mac pro rig with 2000gb of hdd space, so space isn't really an issue - but I don't want to have a bunch of footage I'm done editing just sitting taking up room. so, I'm asking you guys. do you periodically clear your scratch disk or do you keep every minute of all the scratch footage you've ever shot?

I'd love to hear the answer to this as well as what the best process people have found for transfer to an external hard drive.

I did figure out the other day that whatever you clear in the scratch is directly linked to the what you have in FCP, so be aware before you trash anything you may want to actually hold on to and put somewhere else.

I reset my scratch disk for every project. After the project is done I pull everything off my work drive and back it up to disk or another external drive.
That way I keep my work drives clean and maintain a backup of projects if my work drive fails. It also allows me to keep my work drive organized when working on multiple projects.
Hope that help.

i also reset my scratch disk for each project.

curious, ive heard people putting their scratch on a different drive for "speed". im running my project, scratch and source video off my Raid.

any benefit in putting my scratch somewhere else?

I clear my scratch disk(s) after every couple of projects, depending on how much space is used up and wether or not there is a chance that I'll need to work with the material in the near future. I tend to work on projects that need to be updated every few weeks or months so I tend to keep things on my drives longer.

Right now I'm working on a couple of projects that are close to 500GB each and my scratch disks are close to being filled up.

The problem is really that there's not an archival system that's both feasible and affordable. I'd like to get my sweaty mitts on a Quantum but I don't have those funds at my disposal. Hard drives crash or degrade. Good times...

I clear my scratch disk all the time and back up to external. Right now I have 5 drives attached to my my Mac and all of them are pretty much full.
