Do You Buy or Rent Movies?

I keep a very small (+/- 50 titles) library of stuff that I know I'll keep coming back to, and/or has particular elements that make it reference-worthy. Anything else I rent as and when I want to see it. Anything that I find myself renting more than a couple of times, I'll probably wind up buying.

netflix. unless your name is No Country For Old Men, There Will Be Blood, or Band of Brothers. those are the blu-rays that I had to buy, waiting for the prices to come down on everything else

wow. this is an old thread. but okay, ill bite.

i never buy movies. im all about the blockbuster 3 movies at a time plan. the movies i do own, i splurged or they were a gift and are specificly themed (usually clint eastwood flicks) and i know i will always want to re-watch them.

RENT! Blockbuster online FTW!

Though there are movies worth buying I am so very happy with the 20+ DVDs I get a month for the price of one.

Since getting a Blu Ray player (PS3), I've been going crazy with NetFlix. I've had the two-at-a-time service for over two years now. Since I started getting NetFlix I've slowed way down on the number of movies that I buy.

I still buy movies, just very seldomly. And I only buy movies that I want to study or watch time and time again. Sort of regret buying many of the DVDs that I own now (200+) because I have very little interest in watching some of them ever again - even though I love them.

Haven't been in a rental store since college - 6-7 years ago.

That is why I love Blockbuster. You get to pick up boxed DVDs when you drop off the envelopes at the store. With my girl we love going through the isles looking for a great one. It is so nice when you find one that you've been exited to see and you can go back to your house and watch it.

We also benefit from having a Blockbuster about 15 blocks from our house.

I used to love doing that too. But the Blockbusters in Santa Maria all closed down. Then, I move back to New York to find that all of my local Blockbusters have closed down. :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

Hope mine stays kicking, and it should, it is always very busy!

The enveloped movie for the in-store boxed DVD exchange thing was pretty awesome while it lasted for me. I'd have like 6 movies going at once. But, Blockbuster managed to half kill the fun. If they deem you as an "over renter" they will slow down their shipments (or the store will just never mail them in on time). Plus, they went from unlimited in-store exchanges to just 5 exchanges. But, that was still enough for me.

Yea, we often get way too many movies going on at once.

We hit a nice pace now and watch about 20 movies a month. You also get the extra movie coupon, don't forget! :)

I buy more than I rent. I use NetFlix to try out any movies and do the renting thing. It's good to rent Bluray too and see if it's worth it (if you already have the DVD). The downside to renting is I like to see special features. I haven't gotten anything from a Blockbuster in who knows how long. Luckily some 2-disc films are available to rent from Netflix.
