Do video processing settings affect output?

Do the settings under Sequence>Settings>Video Processing affect the final output or export of the sequence or just the rendered video in FCP? In other words, if these settings are set to not very good for faster render times, does this compromise the quality of the exported file from compressor?

Okay, my manual only goes to Chapter 24 in volume III. I am using FCP 5.1.2 if you are talking about FCP 6?

The manual is really not very specific on this... It *looks* to be all about rendering within in the sequence, but it explicitly says that these settings do not affect the output. If you are worried about the Motion Filtering Quality, don't worry. You will have to re-render before output if you select the low quality ("Fastest"). A quick test will reveal this.

The only setting I would be concerned with is the Max. White setting, if you are shooting with a camera that produces super-white and you are editing for broadcast. Probably not the case for you (nor is it for me) but I can see how this might affect your exported video.

Thank you for the response. That makes me feel a lot better to know that past projects have not been exported at a lower quality because of my ignorance.

Actually though, Im not quite sure what you mean by "You will have to re-render before output if you select the low quality ("Fastest")." Do you mean that when you export that compressor or FCP will re-render the sequence instead of using the lower quality motion render files from FCP?

Depends on the kind of output. If you are creating a FCP Quicktime, it will have to re-render at a higher quality. If you are exporting via Compressor, all frames are re-rendered anyway.

I'm not even sure how you could output with the low quality rendering... You probably can if you really try, but it's not the default, and you will definitely be able to tell the difference if it happens.

Okay, thanks. And does it really make a difference in using best or normal for motion filtering? Also, does it really make a difference in using normal 8-bit yuv or high quality yuv? And is this difference bigger when using plugins like magic bullet looks for color correction?
