Do people buy broken DVX100's!!

I work in the equipment cage at my school we have (had) 6 DVX100's and 5 dvc80's, 4 HVX200's We now have our second dvx100 break. The same problem "Needs VEP03G55A MAIN VTR CBA REPLACED". The repair cost is $899.29. And the school doesn't want to pay to have them repaired so they are now paper weights!

My question is, is it worth trying to buy it broken from the school and fixing it with my own money for myself or should i try and sell it on ebay? Do people buy them?
 
I don't know--it sounds like they might be thrashed, and getting used as school equipment, they may have other problems. Why don't you see if they'll give you the broken cameras and you can see what they bring on eBay. Someone would definitely buy them for parts. You can buy a working DVX in excellent shape for $1600, so the known repair is already getting close to buying a working camera.

What are the chances you live in South Africa, none... oh well, i'd love some new parts for mine.

Other wise if the tape bit is buggered buy yourself a firestore and you are 100% again!
