Do not want! - Lucas messes with the trilogy again.

Here's a hilarious deleted scene from the blu-ray, which takes the ineptitude of stormtroopers to new heights, capped off by a ridiculous Han Solo reaction. I picture Benny Hill music playing under this scene.

You know, someone at Cracked.com suggested that the Stormtroopers' lousy accuracy vs. the heroes' dead-on aim may be a psychological issue: the guys in the armor are reluctant to actually kill anybody (in keeping with the studies demonstrating that real soldiers in real combat frequently fire blind or try to -avoid- killing their opponents; killing other human beings doesn't usually come so easily) while the heroes - since they're shooting at faceless, interchangeable robot-like adversaries effectively dehumanized by their identical armor - have little or co compunction about good accurate shot placement.

Probably further evidence that people think about this stuff way too much, but still...

Maybe they shoulda had a WW1 "Christmas Truce" moment (aka ceasefire)...could have tied in nicely with the Star Wars Holiday Special.

What amazed me most about the deleted scene was the realization that there was no "there" there. Everything was weak - the acting, the camera work, the direction - everything. Granted, this was a cut from untimed dailies, but I have seen other rough cuts and you can see the core or the spark of what the finished piece will be like. It's just amazing how thin the outtake scene was. So what made STAR WARS great? Not the acting. I can only think that it was the music and maybe "The Hero's Journey" story.

Um, just a wild guess but this is probably why it didn't make it into the movie!

LOL...Sometimes extra resolution reveals some unfortunate things. Perhaps the Death Star detention area isn't well stocked with Maxi pads.

So I picked up the original trilogy blu-rays this morning, and I have to say, I am actually pretty disappointed in the picture quality…...

Hey, anyone else pick up the blu rays that can weigh in with a review? Is it a worthy buy? Do they suck? Is there a SW bluray thread that I'm missing? I'd be curious to hear about the supplementals and if they are any good or not. Thanks!

This is the only thread. I only bought the three original movies. From what I know, the extras, other than the deleted scenes are just okay. They didn't include the awesome Empire of Dreams documentary that was on the last DVD release. As I have mentioned the picture quality isn't top drawer, which is what you'd expect from Mr. THX himself. Star Wars and Jedi are inconsistent in quality. Empire is better. They are certainly watchable and sometimes pretty amazing looking, and they sound better, I'm just holding Lucasfilm to a higher standard. Compared to recent masters of older titles like Aliens, Close Encounters, Blade Runner or 2001, they aren't nearly as good. Next to a disc like Avatar it looks like a kinescope. From what I've heard Phantom Menace has too much DNR (digital noise reduction), Attack of the Clones is soft, with only Revenge of the Sith looking amazing.

wow, it ¡s impressive how much money they've spent on a huge marketing campaign......I've seen it announced in nearly all news programs , variety shows, etc here in spain

Hmmmm. I wish there was still place to rent locally, because I just want to watch ep 4. I just got a new player.

I think I've seen "empire of dreams" on a previous release, and yeah thats all I really need as far as supplementals go. if it's the same documentary i'm thinking of, it's pretty phenomenal.

you would think that this blu-ray release would kick ass, but i have seen similar reviews online about things "looking" less than stellar. But I keep hearing the sound is good!

Just to stray off topic, it seems like bluray/DVDs are on their way out. The "discs for sale" area at Costco was looking pretty lean. But there are a lot of players for sale, all boasting Netflix/online compatibility.

Maybe at the most, I'll just get the 1st 3. I'd like to have Star Wars movies for my kid to watch when he gets a bit older.

I got the original series on blu ray. I dont recall seeing the version with hayden at the end of jedi and I almost puked when i saw it. It was the single worst change out of any of the three movies. I can handle the other CG stuff added in even though it took me out of the moment because it didnt match the other stuff but that was just ridiculous.
