Do music videos sell well on iTunes?

Does anyone have experience with trying to sell music video downloads via iTunes? I'm considering directing a low budget music video, and the compensation would be largely getting exclusive right to the video itself, so I'm wondering how viable it would be to try and sell the video through iTunes. For promotional reasons, the video would also be available for free viewing in standard def at places like YouTube, but the HD cut would only be available from iTunes.

Not likely. iTunes requires the producing organization be officially recognized as a company, so at the very least you'll have to create an LLC and call it a production company. Also, iTunes won't sell your music video if the artist in the video isn't in the iTunes music store to begin with.

In addition, iTunes absorbs a lot of the profit, so at most you'll be seeing 20-40 cents from each sale.

"low budget" sounds like "local band without much national exposure if any" to me, so I'd have to say the video would have to be extremely good and the song very popular to make people want to pay $2 for it instead of just watching it on YouTube.
