Do I really need DVD SP 3 if . . . .

. . . . all I want to do is just burn a feature length movie, 24p advanced, to DVD, and I've already got Compressor and Roxio Toast. I don't have any interest right now in having a bunch of graphics, extra features, buttons, et., all I want is to put the movie on the DVD. If this is right, can someone give me a rough work flow, cause it seems I always miss a step doing this stuff. It really sucks being tech challenged.

If you are using compressor, then yes, you will need to have DVD Studio Pro as iDVD does not take in any .m2v files. I suppose you can use iDVD and use the appropriate settings to fit a feature length movie onto a DVD but it will be more compressed and you will have less options in terms of customizability (is that a word ??? )

To keep the highest quality compression, you should look into maybe using dual layer DVDs, although you definitely need DVD SP 3 for that one ....

If all you need is for the DVD to start to play when you pop it in then Compressor (for all your compression) needs and Roxio Toast (for all your burning needs) is all that is needed to create a DVD. DVD Studio Pro is basically like a WYSIWYG editor (ala Dreamweaver/GoLive) for video authoring. You don't need to know the 3rd Party/External editor in order to get the same simple result. I can create a web site from scratch with PHOTOSHOP and a TEXT EDITOR. But in our case we use FCP/COMPRESSOR and TOAST.

1st - you edit and finalize etc. in FCP/iMovie/or even within Quicktime!
2nd - compress in compressor using the 120min high quality setting for video
3rd - compress your audio(aiff stereo or surround files) using A.Pak
4th - take those files and use Toast to create/author the DVD.

I've never authored using toast but that program does come with the ability to do so.
I think you can even set simple chapter markers or import the chapter markers created in FCP.
