Do I really need 1080p TV set for hdv color grading?

Okay I plan on doing some color grading with, after effects,Color, and maybe motion. What I am wondering is do I need a 1080p 24 set to preview the video on to get color accurate previews? I will most likely be color grading dvcpro hd 720p, hdv 1080p, and SD material. 720p HDTV monitors are alot less and I will be color grading 720p maybe 20% of the time. How will 720p video look on a 1080p monitor?

Is anyone here going from a Macbook Pro out of the dvi to a HD tv for color grading monitoring? If so how are your findings? I really don't want to buy a matrox that doesn't work with Apple Color when I am sure someone will come out with a express card slot color monitoring option. Thanks all

If you are going to be working w/1080 material you should get a 1080 set so you see the full, 1:1 1080 image. If you are going to be doing color work you need an accurate monitoring solution otherwise you can't be sure just what exactly you are doing to your image. Unfortunately using a laptop really limits your options. The Matrox MXO is the only device that I know of on the market right now that can get a color accurate signal out of a laptop.
