Do All Foam Cases smell bad?

I recently got two SKB foam filled cases from two different vendors, and they both smelled TERRIBLE. The foam had an acrid stink that irritated our eyes and throats. We left the cases open in a well-ventilated garage for a full week. The odor has decreased (you can't smell it from ten feet away any more), but still remains. I guess this is the foam outgassing, but I'm no expert.

Is this confined to SKB cases? Do more expensive cases like Pelican not smell bad?

Anyone have tips & tricks about how to get rid of the smell once and for all?

The stinky cases are bad enough, but I don't want my gear smelling this way. Any tips about protecting my kit?

Thanks for the help in advance.

I remember my pelican cases having a slight smell when new but nothing like you describe. I didn't have to air it out.

I would be worried that whatever is outgassing may not be healthy for delicate camera gear and electronics. Contact them and see what they say. I have been in machine shops after an office fire where the plastic fumes from burning computer and office equipment caused all the metal surfaces in the machine shop to rust badly. An acrid stench wouldn't inspire me to put any of my gear in those cases.
