DJI RS 3 & RS 3 Pro

Unfortunately I think I need to purchase a gimbal for some upcoming work and it'll definitely be the rs 3 pro, even if a significantly cheaper used rs 2 is available.

Who knows, maybe I'll like it?

do you find this to be a compelling upgrade?

I honestly think the most interesting/compelling things to come out of the announcement were the LiDAR system and the wireless monitor/control system.

If I used a gimbal more, I think some of the new features would be helpful and very nice to have, but I don’t do enough of that type of work to plunk down $1K+ on this new one, when I’ve already been spending a ton of money on gear lately, and will probably be writing some very large checks for more, sometime this fall.

I use gimbals constantly but I think the only upgrades that interest me are superior stabilization and lighter weight. Since I'm using Sony AF lenses and usually shooting as a solo operator, don't need LIDAR; DJI transmission looks really cool but only the wireless monitoring would really be useful for me, and not all the time. (I can also monitor wirelessly via smartphone with the built-in camera wifi app, albeit with limitations.)

You and other folks said the RS2 wasn't much different in terms of stabilization than the Ronin-s, so I've stuck with the Ronin-S. (I have 2 weebill-s units as well now because they're super lightweight.) The RS3 claims to have a 20% improvement in stabilization over the RS2, but who knows what that really means? It's still substantialy heavier than the weebill-s (as are the newer versions of the weebill) so it won't take the lightweight spot in my lineup

After shooting with an FX6 with Sony lenses on a job back in December, I was amazed at just how good their AF is. It locked onto the subjects eye and was like a pit-bull on a steak.

Bluetooth record button is a nice bonus.

I suppose, but I don't think it's a big deal to connect a camera control cable to the platform. In some ways, that might be preferable since wired control can be more reliable than wireless

In my case, it's not useful because I virtually always shoot on ronin-s or weebill-s with my phone strapped to my wrist controlling the camera via wifi app. So, I already have a remote record start (as well as exposure/wb/framerate controls and, most importantly, touch tracking). I think that mirrorless cameras typically can't connect to multiple controllers simultaneously. The a7iv even requires a bluetooth connection to the phone in addition to wifi.

Obviously, it's not all about ME but I'm a hardcore user of these devices and I'm not seeing anything specific that tempts me, like a one-push switch into vertical shooting mode with the unit still oriented upright. (I'm not sure that's possible or would even work well with the motors).

I just updated the new firmware for my A1 and compared it to my FX6, I think the 1.3 update for the A1 has an edge on my FX6. Just wished they do something on the lowlight now, hehe

Sounds like a great set up. I used a zhiyun crane 3S last week and am using an rs2 this weekend. The crane felt awful by comparison vs DJI stuff seems like it ages better. So I think you can keep going for a while with your ronin s.

the build quality on the ronin-s is far, far superior to that of the zhiyun weebill-s. The crane 3S is probably somewhere between the two? the whole reason the weebill-s is so light is because it's plastic fantastic. I just wish the joystick behaved like the DJI. But the basic performance is pretty similar, and the weebill-s is a joy to use in POV mode (which, if possible, would be more difficult on a heavier unit).

I've gotten the impression that stabilization and basic usage is pretty similar across models and brands. So, what really distinguishes them is features and build quality. But you could get the basic job done with any of them as long as it can handle your payload

I sold the Crane3 for the RC2 mostly for the almost 3lbs difference. It’s not only a difference it’s a world. The setup in the app is easier and the Tilta advanced rig is a game changer for me.

what do you like about the tilta ring? and can you temporarily support the rig with one hand so you can tap a screen with your other hand?

The handling is much better with the hands left and right. The joystick works great at the ring..you can hold the rig with one hand on the top handle. For some cameras there’s a focus wheel on the other bar possible but I haven’t checked that so far.

Do you use the rs2 with the c70 or c300 iii? Or which one more often?

I just bought an air 2s... DJI seem to always find a way. I don't even want to buy an rs3 but it's priced so that you sort of look bad for not owning one for small projects.

I agree that stability/handling improves with a spread grip. I just use one side-handle on my Ronin-S so I can keep my primary hand on the gimbal grip. That way I can pull my left hand off the rig to make adjustments and my right hand can carry the grip without shifting. It's a compromise, but well worth it

I just ordered a used RSC2 ($318 shipped - yes, I know I'm cheap). I figured that the drop in price of the older models make it worth another look to see if I want to replace my Weebill-S's with RSC2's (or at least one of them). I don't really need to make a change, but I use lightweight gimbals so much that it might be worth seeing if I like them more. The RSC2 weighs 208g more than the Weebill-S. (I'm eager to minimize weight on this particular tool to reduce strain on my wrist when dutching the rig, and also to make it easier to carry 2 and switch between them.)

neither nor. The C300iii is way to heavy even if the RS2 can handle it. And I don't own a C70.
On the gimbal I have only a naked R5c or R5.

Oh so you use the r5c with the tilta ring? That’s a good set up to have the smallest bare bones auto focus with the ring, you can probably shoot for hours.
