DJI Ronin 2 Announced

Love DJI products but boy does that seem bulky and huge. At least you can set it down on the ground or a table now like the Letus Helix Jr. DJI will sell a ton of these simply because they are the monolith of drones and gimbals but I wish they would have made it smaller and less bulky instead of upping the size.

If you look at the promotional material for the Ronin 2, almost all of the set-ups are on a support of some kind. It looks like DJI has decided to market the Ronin line as its heavy duty series and the Ronin-M line as it's handholdable series. I have the original Ronin and I wouldn't mind if it was heavier since I'm using a vest and arm to support it. The weight actually helps with stability.

I'm guessing there will also be a successor to the Ronin-m that can also be set down. Both sizes of the original Ronins sold well, and the ability to set it down was one of the main requests/complaints, so if this is too big for you, that just means you need the smaller model. I can't imagine they won't make one.

Yup, my idea of fun is not carrying around a 15-20lb rig held out in front of my body. In all things video and film for documentary shooting, lighter and smaller is always better.

Clearly you do not have "ambitious camera configurations". I think that's my favorite quote in the promo. It is completely nonsensical. But then again, maybe I don't have an "ambitious vocabulary configuration."

In looking over several stories on this new Ronin, I think it is actually made more for vehicle mounting, mounting on boats, crane arms, etc. than for carrying and using by hand. For those applications, I am sure that it is amazing as it probably would be when mounted on an arm/vest combo. DJI is really smart and they are killing it in the marketplace, I am sure they wouldn't have invested the money to develop this if there weren't a good sized market looking for the weight capacity.

Yes, it's heavy. Quite a bit heavier than it should be given that it's made of carbon fiber. The ergonomics aren't great; it's too wide, and the rear arm prevents the operator from keeping it close to the body, so it's not usable without a backpack rig or mounted on something. Its ergonomics are better than the Ronin's, but not by all that much.
