Very nice. Might be a better option for me over the Mavic. The Mavic is cool but the camera is just okay. This will have a lot better images and greater flight time, will hold up in wind better too. Not sure I need really portable over better images.
 
12 stops accordingly but I'll take that with a pinch of salt. Looking at the footage shown so far it looks like higher ISO shooting is possible and that the footage lacks the oversharpen look that the other phantoms exhibit.

The big questions is if the pros of the Mavic trumps the P4 Pro or the other way around? I'm sure disappointed by the lack of image quality on the original P4 (and P3) but the Mavic actually looks better than the original P4. Portability vs image quality.
 
Yes... exciting times... Mavic I believe shoots 60mb/s while this is 100mb/s on the codec... choices, choices.
If the inspire 2 footage is lots better than the original inspire...than that's also great stuff
 
This is the update to finally get my drooling. It has the same camera as the lower Inspire 2 with the comfortability of the Phantom. The Mavic was tempting but this will likely be a much better image.
 
Image quality looks like much better than the P4 but there's that tiny form factor of the Mavic to consider. Honestly I would like to own both but it's a bit difficult to justify as I have no intention to work with drones. I just like to fly and grab nice looking footage and video.
 
Yeah until this point I've hired people to shoot drone footage for productions. But I have been learning on a phantom 2 so this seems like a good step. For budgeted productions I'll still hire someone but nice to have the options and have something to travel with.

I'm in the same boat. I am actually talking to a client in a few minutes who wants to shoot some golf courses and I told them that I cannot just grab a drone and do it, we have to hire someone with the right license and experience to stay legal and get the shots needed.

I use a P3 Pro at work, and I was set on buying the Mavic myself until the announcement of thew P4 Pro and the Inspire 2.

My biggest problem with the older DJI drones was exposure (I haven't used the Inspire 1 pro raw which I understand is better in this regard). I hate fighting with ND filters to get to a 180 degree shutter angle, and unless the lighting seemed 100% perfect, I was either blowing out the sky or underexposing everything to mush, with nothing in between. So the fact that the P4 Pro has an actual iris is a huge plus. And it seems the dynamic range will be at least slightly better, meaning much more likelihood of workable shooting conditions. Hopefully Cinema5D will do a dynamic range test soon.

Sounds cool. Will the iris be controllable on the P4 Pro?

Also, will the camera ease in and out of moves? I know earlier models (P3?) was always a little abrupt entering or leaving a camera move. So a tilt always had a distinct (and ugly) start and finish. The 3DR Solo, despite its flaws, had amazing easing on the gimbal. It was like bezier curves had been dynamically built in to make camera tilts appear and disappear like butter. Anyone know if the Phantoms, or at least this model, are like this now?
 
Yes Mavic vs P4Pro is going to take some thinking. If Olympus 240 mb codec on the EM1 II right and the Gh5 is smoking, I am going to have a tough year spending my yearly $2K budget for equipment (just a hobbyist but I do some Pro Bono work). Exciting times indeed.
 
Aperture is adjustable on the P4 Pro so exposing will be easier to do without going crazy on the shutter speed or working with filters. I'm leaning towards the P4 Pro as image quality appears to be better compared to my current P4. But I'm in no hurry and I'll probably wait until spring next year.

Both the Mavic and P4 have about 8.5 stops of DR and the P4 Pro specs to around almost 12 stops so this will make a big difference. I'm hoping for a decent log gamma or something that keeps the high lights in shack.

The Mavic introduced something called tripod mode which I believe slows everything way down. So hopefully the P4 Pro will get that too. No more accidentally almost tapping the yaw and having the drone respond by spinning madly like a security camera.
 
8.5 vs. 12 stops makes me think the extra weight and hassle of the P4Pro may be worth it. If you fly a drone for fun, Mavic all of the way. If all you care about is what you'll see on your editing monitor at the office, seems as if the P4Pro would be the way to go. 1" sensor too! Bigger pixels are better!

Because it's expensive and wrong? I wonder how the FAA is going to try to keep track of all of the hundreds of thousands of US drone owners though. What if I own a drone and constantly go shoot stock footage for my library. What if I then charge a client a few hundred bucks to open their video with a spectacular drone shot from my library, is that illegal? Or is it just illegal to be hired by a client and paid to shoot drone footage without the commercial license? Seems as if there is a lot of gray area in the enforcement of this law. I've written articles about this but the laws have been changing quickly with the new commercial license so I need to go back into research mode on all of this.
