I want to get a drone around $2000. I see there’s a lot of controversy around DJI in the USA. What drone can I buy that’s equivalent to the DJI mini pro? I’m just looking for decent 4k video.

Unfortunately, there isn't much competition in the drone market. DJI really does make the best drones (both for image quality and flying). Have you looked into Autel?... I just sold my Mavic 3 Classic and I want to buy another drone, but I'm going to wait this thing out. There's a very good chance of a Chinese drone ban which means drone owners will be SOL. Not because they will take our current drones, but parts and support might be limited...

Gotcha. I wonder if this is really about security or Trump just trying to empower us drone manufacturers?

DJI is really the only player in this market for easy, efficient and quality video capture.
Autel would certainly be another drone maker that appears to have good quality products, but they are also based out of China, they just happen to have a U.S. based subsidiary.
My advice, if you need a drone immediately for aerial video capture then just get a DJI and use it until you can't, if that happens. Then look into other options if that becomes necessary.
