DJI Announces New Ronin-M

Yes. I love my Ronin. Only complaint is that it's a bit too heavy and bulky.

This looks great. Only problem is it's likely going to kill my Ronin rentals as everyone will have one now.

The Letus Helix is by far the best Gimbal we've ever used... and you don't need an assistant carrying a stand around everywhere you go :)

I will never buy Letus products.

In 2010, I bought an adapter ring for $ 3,000 for my pdw700 which has had a problem a few weeks after the purchase, pieces of the iris were detached.

I reported several times on their website and I never had any answer. A shame!

The adapter was unusable and I had used it just for one shot!

i own a Ronin and wish i hadn't bought it because of weight. i usually put something like a 5DmkIII on to keep the weight down but putting a 8-9lb camera is more than I'm willing to deal with. i should have held a big sack of potatoes in front of me for 10-20 mins prior to buying it then i would have known what i was getting into.

this looks good but still if basically the same thing although maybe a little smaller.

I'm holding out for a Nebula 4000 type of gimbal but improved and able to hold a bigger body like a 5DmkIII with a medium size lens like the 16-35mmL. want a better thought out tool-less design though.

i will be happy to bypass this whole classic gimbal design thing going forward.

Could mean a reduction in price of the Defy G2 and Helix. I really hope so Coz the Helix is what I want but it costs too much.

I'm not here to act as a sales rep for the Helix but it does solve several problems we've experienced with traditional Movi/Ronin type gimbals that I feel most people overlook until it's too late.

1. Regular gimbals have to be set down on a separate stand. Good luck hauling that thing with you (or carried by a production assistant) everywhere you go because you NEED it.

2. Too heavy for the weight limit of what you can mount.

3. the lens sits too low for most shots meaning you're holding your arms up in the air higher to get eye level shots... feels great on the arms after about 30 seconds.

The reason we went with a Helix which came to $5,000 shipped is because it SOLVES ALL of these issues. The design truly is brilliant. No stand is required, just sets right on the ground/table etc anywhere you want... Very small, light weight, long lasting power (hours) sits at eye level and its dead silent in operation. There's nothing to break down for traveling either. It just folds flat, goes in a bag or case and off you go! I literally mount a camera, balance, turn on and we're off shooting in less than 10 minutes.

Compared to everything we've tried, it's worth it's weight in gold.

At this point, I myself am not interested in shelling out $5000 to anyone for a gimble when Makers are are catching on and answering the call for usability and cost at less than half the price. I think the new Ronin will be a great welcome. Can't wait.

Hey, I have no relation to the company other than having purchased a Helix. I was on a feature and day two of eighteen I ran into a problem. I put a call into customer service, they advised me to Skype with them when I got home from work. I got in at 11pm and Skyped with one of the engineers until 12:30am. He was exhausted because he just moved into a new home, there were boxes everywhere but he wouldn't go to sleep until we finished our session. Turns out I needed a new part which was FedExed to me.

I worked the Helix heavily the rest of the feature without issue. I guess what I'm saying is all gear can have problems. Very few companies will be open to Skyping with you to troubleshoot your problems at midnight so you can be set the next day.

YMMV

Same experience. Insane service.

I needed a camera: Special circumstance led me to get a camera the same day (7-8 hours later) though I was 185 miles away.

2. Too heavy for the weight limit of what you can mount.

The DJI Ronin-M weighs 5 lbs and can handle camera packages up to 8 lbs, this seems like a pretty workable weight range to me.

Switch to inverted mode and your camera is a fair bit higher than your arms. Again, I don't see a problem here.

I am willing to pay $2,000 for a gimbal, but $5,000 is way out of my budget range.

This looks really interesting! I've wanted a gimbal for my 5D for a while, but thought the Ronin was a bit overkill.

This new Ronin is great but was anyone hoping for a DJI Nebula type of handheld gimbal?

I completely understand budgets; however, we feel that Letus created something truly brilliant and unique with the Helix and for us and many others, the benefits are still worth every penny.

As far as your point the weight issue, I agree the Ronin-M seems to solve that problem and is VERY appealing; heck we may end up getting one as a backup Gimbal; however, it still could not support a loaded RED with cine-glass… whereas with the Helix (which only weighs 6 lbs) can hold and stabilize up to 16 pounds because of its unique design. The different mounting plates also allows us to switch from a GH4 to a Scarlet, balance and shoot in literally minutes.
Ronin Invert mode sounds nice in theory but I tend to shoot my cameras right-side-up and finally, there’s still the final and for us, THE BIGGEST problem is that it still traditional gimbals require a separate stand. This doesn’t fly with us (pun intended) when we’re running and gunning across various locations around the world where if I need to set down the gimbal I don’t have to wait for a production assistant to come running over with a stand.

What you’re paying for with the Helix is the design… plain and simple.

I laid my mitts on one this aft. Completely managable with a Gh4 or A7s. Not at all like the larger ones where you instantly feel like you are benchpressing or swinging kettleballs. Im going to say 6 to 8 pound range with camera and small cage. I think closer to 6. This unit would be portable as in throw it in a backpack if you had to.

Can you ask one of the reps if they have an eta for when an s1000 adapter will be available for it?
