(sorry i posted this in wrong forum previously)...

if I want to capture audio from a Dj's turntables? what kind of audio setup would u suggest?

pls help. i have an event to shoot at the end of month!

First, find out the output level of the mixing desk. You most probably wouldn't need to capture the power amp outputs, so go straight from the desk.

You also want to make sure to earth the turntables and possibly the mixer to prevent ground loop hum, but if it's a proper permanent club setup and not a ghetto thrown together job, it's probably already set up nice and hum free.

what kind of mics?

bididdy,
If you want more detail then you need to provide more detail. Do you simply want to record the audio or are you wanting to record it with video? If video, what camera are you using? Do you need to be mobile with the camera? What can you tell us about the 'dj turntables'. I assume you're meaning the dj's mixer as horseface indicated. If you don't know anything about what you'll be hooking up to, you need to either find out or be prepared with a variety connector types. The most common would be 1/4" phono and RCA but XLRs are also a possiblity. Then you need to know the signal level the board is sending to make sure it matches the inputs of what you're recording to. I've heard some wedding videographers say they just set up a mic with a high max SPL in front of the DJ's speakers rather than hassle with a direct hookup. It does simplify things but I would only do it as a last resort.

Sorry, you're right. My vagueness is due to lack of knowledge!

I dont know yet what equipment the DJ will be using. BUt I was just planning to record the audio from the console. Recording the DJ, the host etc.

Im using the dvx100b and i plan to move around. a friend advised to use a wireless lav-

isnt rca the video connector and xlr is the audio one?
