DIY Waterproof case

This might be not a very smart idea, but what would peoples opinions be on a DIY water proof case for a DVX?

I'm planning on doing a shoot in a pool and dont want to spend a lot of money on a professional case, since I'm only going to use it once...

Anybody tried making one before? In theory the idea behind it is not that complicated but dont want to give my camera a bath either...

i saw a feature on DV magazine where they just used an empty aquarium, held it halfway down the pool, I saw they had a rig securing it, placed the HVX inside to shoot the underwater scene.

If only there was a place to rent underwater housing in Ireland... :-\

Thanks for the info everyone, going to try making one in the next few weeks, still not too enthusiastic of putting my dvx underwater into something I would built, but guess will just have to do lots of testing first :)

I remember seeing some youtube DIY videos about how to make an underwater housing. It's been a while but from what I remember some were pretty good and cost under $100 to make.

Here is one I made almost a year ago for my little Sony HDV camera, works great to depths up to 50' or so,went diving with it in the Bahamas!,Made for under $50.00!
We used 5" PVC pipe, very cheap and still looks good!

I am going to make one for my DVX,But obviously 4" isn't large enough!
We will be using 7" PVC,Or possibly 10" PVC.

I will make a tutorial,if I get time!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Thanks,Houston Montgomery
