Just going to put this here for whoever may benefit.
I was prepping my gear today for a wedding shoot on Saturday when I realized that the tripod mounting cradle for my Zoom H4 was missing. I panicked! I looked online for a replacement, but there was nothing I could get before Saturday. I looked for an adhesive tripod socket, but the only one I found wouldn't hold the weight, and I couldn't get it before Saturday either.
I was about to resign myself to simply super-gluing a 1/4"-20 nut onto the bottom of the H4 when I got an idea.
Some time ago someone had given me one of those 'selfie stick' things for smart phones. I had no use for it, so it's been in the bottom of a drawer. I pulled it out.
Turns out the clamp on it that holds the smart phone will also hold the Zoom H4. And if you unscrew that clamp from the stick part, then you discover that it has a nice little 1/4"-20 tripod socket on it. Attached it to my tripod, and I'm good to go! I will have to tilt the tripod head to get the stereo mics on the H4 parallel to the ground, but that's no big deal.
It ain't pretty, but it works -- and it cost me nothing.
