Recently built a DIY rig for the HMC40. Took a bit of time to get all the right pieces but it came together very nicely. Painted it all black today and ordered some grips for it as well! I can post more pics when it's completely built and finished.

Total cost was

15.97 for the 10ft stick of channel at Home depot.
6 bucks for the black steel nipples (8 inches)
9.5 inch bolts (2)
3.50 for the cold shoe mounts on top (ebay)
6 bucks for the 1/4 drill bit and tap for the camera mount, tripod mount and cold shoe mounts
5 bucks for various 1/4 bolts, thumb bolts and washer.

So for around 40-50 bucks you can have yourself a SOLID set up for your gear.

It's actually not too bad. With all the gear on it, it's right under 8lbs. It will do until I can find something for the handles that are a bit lighter. The problem is getting the cuts on the handles to be exactly straight which is why I went with the steel nipples instead.

Pipe nipples of the same physical size are available in PVC plastic. And the Unistrut channel is available in aluminum with the same physical dimensions.
