DIY Projector Bulbs, Cheap alternative to HMI?

Two years ago I created a diy projector and I used
this 400W Metal Halide bulb with ballast. The light is so
powerful so I'm thinking if this could be a cheap
alternative to HMI Fresnel.
Bulb output is about 36000-40000 lumens.

Has anyone tried this route?

Projection Bulb Metal Halide 400w T-15 style. Use this bulb for your Projector with the E-ballast or M-59 Coil Ballast. this bulb is rated at 6500K 95 CRI and will burn in vertical or horizontal position. uses E-39 Mogul Base.

There are also metal halides that are being used as Grow Lights.
Something like this and it's very cheap in craigslist.
Not sure about the bulb specs but they are very bright.

Yes its been done and chronicled here as part of our original rollout for our CDM 150 fresnel. HMI is metal halide technology by the way.
