I've gotten some good info here so I thought I'd share a few of my functional, but DIRT CHEAP, pieces of gear. Instead of doing a full cross-post thought I'd save the space and post the links:

Slider (two versions).
Jib Crane (with manual camera tilts!) and Dolly made from a bed frame.

awesome.. I've been looking into building a job for a while, think I might give this one a shot! Thanks man!

Both were CHEAP and easy to make and easily transportable. The crane can easily be made into a two size unit by making and bolting on extension pieces. The manual tilting of the camera was the main feature I wanted in a crane. Another was being able to place the camera into position and having it hold it so it doubles as a camera boom.

Visor!

Ressurecting a somewhat older thread here but, thanks for the inspiration and the links to HV20.com

Time for me to put a dolly/slider together myself.

sincerely,

ian

Looks really good, although I'm always frightened by the slider rigs that rely on gravity. This hasn't been an issue for you?
