DIY Mic Shock Absorber

This is the shock mount I made to go on the end of a make shift boom pole (painters pole). Sadly I do not have a picture of this being used but it worked well and caught a lot of attention. It is made from a paint roller, a pencil holder and a few rubber bands (Could also use hair bands). The spinning part of the roller handle was cut off so that the only metal rod is the one that comes out of the plastic handle. I cut the bottom off the pencil holder (wire cutters work but take forever) which allows a mic to pass straight through w/ the cord coming out one end, not having to double back through the mic holder causing extra noise. The roller handle and the pencil holder are attached with epoxy. I then stretched rubber bands around the pencil holder. I used 8 pairs but it could easily be done with 6 and possibly 4 (It must be pairs so that there is a band on each side of the mic. The mic then gets fed through the middle of the sets of rubber bands and is suspended.

Better Pictures

I just realized the bad contrast on the pictures above so here are some that are actually easily seen.
