I found this 10 litre plastic water container for just under $14 that I'm working on turning into a matte box.

I'll put up images when it's done.

Cant wait to see what you come up with my friend

Hello. I might not have read carefully enough, but are the measurements for the flag and side (on the outline) in CM or in inches?
Thanks

Wezbert,

The scale is in inches. One reason I wasn't so detailed as to the flags dimensions is the fact that everyone has different "box" or container dimensions.

with that consideration, source out the main box first. Then scale the flag outlines accordingly.

The Shovel Mattebox

The Shovel Mattebox

In honor of Teddy. I made a tupperware mattebox for my Canon T2i. I call it "The Shovel". I attached it to a CPM Filmtools Cage and added a LCDVF. I am intending on stocking up on film quality tupperware to build out the complete lineup of Teddy DIY film Tools.

I will be adding barn doors soon.

Total cost under $12.

I used cheap chinese plastic filters(cant read mandarin so i dont know the brand) and cokin filters. The 2 are available easily in my country and so far gets the job done, -cheaply.

I think B&H has those if your in the US.

Currently working on building one of these bad boys. I've got my metal all cut and ready to rivet, drill, and the like. I gotta ask, Ted, how do you get your cuts so clean? I'm using 26 gauge aluminum sheet metal and snips. My cuts refuse to be neat and clean. Spent the better part of an hour grinding the edges with a Dremel tool.

I should be able to box and flags together tomorrow. Still waiting on my cokin filter holder from ebay. I'm up in the air about whether to use the cokin filter holder or go with the newer version because I accidentally cut my plastic bowl incorrectly. o_O

Rob I use a big scissor for cutting sheet metal. The thing with the cokin filter holder route is it won't be flexible when your using grads that need to be tilted or rotated to match your horizon or area you want to apply an effect.

Thanks! I started using one of those big scissor deals, and the cuts are coming out a lot smoother and more accurate. I should have it done hopefully tonight or tomorrow after work. I'm pretty stoked about this because I'm saving a ton of money and it's looking pretty good already. Thanks for the inspiration and the plans!

Finished my rig today! It is sans Matte Box and Follow Focus, but those are in progress and should be done by Spring Break's end.

Thanks to Teddy and all of you who made suggestions!

Pics soon.

Thank you so much Teddy! Your an inspiration to DIY enthusiasts everywhere. Here is my DIY rig so far :

I made some alterations, but the camera mount is the same. No plastic on mine though, strictly aluminum, sheet metal, and galvanized steel.

Thanks again.
