DIY Matte Box: Cost, $0

well its a thursday afternoon, and ive got nothing to do. so i started working on a DIY matte box... right now im still in the ugly cardboard stage, but i think it has potential!

right now im still in the development stages, hoping to find a sheet of black plastic i can replace the cardboard with, then i might even buy the filter holder from cinetactics and see how i can attach it to my box

I think it's wonderful. It's not a mattebox technically, but it's an excellent lens hood. And honestly, if you're never planning on using any of the filters that a mattebox would typically be used with, one would just becomes an overpriced lens hood used to flaunt your cash, and pretty unnecessary.

Anyhow, good work.

thanks armisiano, i agree, makes a great lens hood, and if i get it looking good enough, it might even add a more professional look to the camera(never a bad thing).

Good job. I'm always for saving money when you can and using what you have. But if you have a little money and want a professional Matte Box with French Flag you can actually get a nice one for between $139 and $189 here http://www.imagewest.tv/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=27

I used them and got the Matte Box/French Falg/Adapter combo for only $189. And yes, it's made out of real METAL and holds 2 Filters.
