This is the Manfrotto I made, I think this is what they call it. Great for moving shots, some walking shots, and just about any off angle or odd location shot. 8 pvc 1/2" 45 degree bends ($.60 each) 1 pvc 1/2" T ($.30) 1 pvc 1/2" electrical T ($2.40) Left over 1/2" pvc pipe.

fig rig is what you made, manfrotto is the company that makes it - doesnt matter though as it looks pretty cool - nice work!

eh doesnt really matter what you call it, kicks ass either way. and now people can ask "whats that steering wheel thing?"

You did a beautiful job there... that looks very nice.

If I may humbly offer a thought for everybody... If you want to simplify construction and save money and still get the same visual results with less weight then you can build a square using 4 less connectors and 4 less pipes.

Yes the square will look more "clunky" and definitely not as cool... but if you simply want to accomplish the stabilizing function... all you really need is a frame surrounding the cam.

I'm not saying this to take anything away from the nice rig you've made, but if anybody wants to try this and feels intimidated by the attractiveness of the octagon... they can build a square for pretty much the same result... or even a rectangle.

I'm 6' and about 200 lbs and for my build I found a 17" to 17.5" wide grip (center to center of the vertical grips) to be about right... and if you want to easily clear a DVX on a manfrotto plate (with the top spar) then be sure the opening through the center of the square, rectangle, octagon, whatever... is at least 7.5" or so. Just measure your DVX height with the plate on and mounted to determine min. height.

thanks for the concept i planned on just using a steering wheel before i grasped their cost but after this easy idea im sure it will save me money and time.

Not quite as impressive as Robertson 6's rig but it does the job! I was also gonna make mine into a sweet octagon but it turned out i ran out of the right kinds of PVC connectors that i had lying around in my garage, so i had to make it a square. but i am still quite pleased with it.
I will have some test footage up here later also!!

yup that my gs320. Its a cool little camera. Ya i was so excited to get the pics up here i didnt finish painting it all the way.

Hi,

I like the Roberterson6 rig as it is. The six sides allows one to clamp it at least to six sides and to rest it on to six corner edges at angles.

I'm certainly going to have a go at making one - thanks!
