Has anyone been successful in making a DIY LCD Monitor Arm for a DSLR Shoulder Mount.? I am using a Canon 7D with Shoulder Mount and just acquired a Lilliput monitor? I have seen the Israeli Arms that BH offers but thought there might be a cheaper way to reproduce this.

I ended up buying the full dslr shoulder rig from cinecity.

Simple, yet practical. Thanks Ted. I believe I was over thinking what I needed to do. I was going the multiple ball joint/arm route. This will work just as good.

I think I am going to go with this and rework it. It is only $22 .

You can also look under ebay for magnetic base holder.

Looks to me,where it connects to the magnetic suction cup there is about a 3/8" thread,That would be no problem to tap that thread, and make to 1/4" for most monitors,I am still lost on what to do on the other end though!\

Suggestions?

The threads are actually metric. I ended up buying a redrock micro arm, which was too short. You really have to plan before you use the thing...length of cable to battery, length of HDMI cable, and obstruction of follow focus to the monitor. I will end up using a die tap to create new 1/4' thread for the cheaper arm for ebay but it should work. The shorter redrock arm did end up working once we removed the follow focus.

Actually, one is a short arm and one a long. You will need both depending on how your rig is set up, at least that's how we are using it. Unfortunately, we are using both. Definitely, look into Shars.com for the arm. Only $22 bucks for the long arm.

The arm from shars.com, once the default bolts are taken off are 6mm and 5mm respectively. I attempted to take a stripped down 1/4-20 bolt, grind it down and rethread for these measurements but didn't do very well. It might be better to grind down some of the threads and JB weld the bolt in place or find a sleeve that will fit both the 1/4 threads and 6mm and 5mm bolts, much like a drill chuck.

Here is my finished DIY arm from shars with coupling nuts and 1/4 threads.

I made one of these, back when I was still shooting.

the arms work well, I attached them to some plumbing parts to creat a socket for the ball, and then put bell bike grips on it.
