DIY Lapel Fur Windscreen?

I'm looking at $50 to put a furry Rycote windscreen on my two lav mics. Has anyone made one of these? My shotgun furry windscreens look like a black sock with fur stuck to it. I want to make sure I don't muffle the sound, but it really doesn't look hard to make. Thoughts?

It would seem pretty easy to grab a tiny bit of the kind of cheap double-knit furry cloth from the cloth store and fit it around your mics. For a couple of square inches, they probably wouldn't even charge you for it.

You didn't mention what kind of mics you have? How big are they? If you have two identical mics you could put fur on one and leave the other one bare and do some practical experiments to see if there was any effect on the sound.

I have 2 giant squids. Those are good ideas.

I've found that foam units fall off so often that I attach them very tightly with twist ties. I could do the same with fur lapels.

I've made these (actually had my daughter sew them) for larger mics. At the fabric store, look for the backing to have an open weave and it won't muffle the sound much. These have worked fine for me for cutting wind noise.
