DIY KinoFlo type ballasts?

I have the machinery and material to build a KinoFlo fixture from scratch, but the thing worrying me is the ballast. The fixture is the easiest part I guess but the construction of the ballast seems a bit different.
Is it possible to use regular household electronic ballasts with KinoFlo tubes? I want to use the Kino tubes due to color accuracy and I will probably use them on film(35mm).

Any opinions? Maybe there is someone who tested both. I once heard that KinoFlo is overdriving the tubes, I don't know for sure.

You don't need Kino Flo ballasts to run Kino Flo tubes. They are just part of a larger standard and all T5HO ballasts that will run FT55 or 54w linear tubes will work. We overdrive our ballasts in the non-dimmable cool lights units somewhat too and our customers feel that our Sylvania ballast that we sell under DIY / Parts is pretty darn good for the price. Many DVXUsers have used that ballast as the basis of a DIY project.

Nice to hear that, than only the housing of the ballast differs. And what about overdriving? How do you do that ??
