Several years ago I made one but had to leave it in my home country since moving to the U.S. So I made another made from parts found in home depot and walmart.
The old one had a milled steel base and some welded parts, since I don't have access to welding equipment here, the challenge was how to make a sturdy base and also how to make it lightweight.
I utilized aluminum tubing and rivets.
Nothing fancy really, just your basic jib that takes a camera up and down. You can break it down into lengths that can fit into an average car's trunk.
When mounted on the tripod shown in the pic below the jib can take the camera up to 9 1/2 feet.

After cutting and shaping the parts for the base.

Painting.

Riveting the parts to form the base.
