DIY IndieSlider...

That's awesome.

I had heard of people using monopods, but I didn't have one laying around, and at the price point, the saw horse was a better option.

I like the width as it is a bit wider than the carriage and gives a tiny bit of an edge/protection to the rail itself.

Is your slider motorized/belt driven?

I'm just vaguely beginning to look into that world. There seem to be a ton of options for that as well.
Yup, it's motorized. Here's my latest forum post about it...

Planned to get a Zazaslider pretty soon.
But i am not too clear by this:

1. The rail (I got 1000mm which is about 39" long and gives you a good 36" of slide), already has 9 evenly spaced holes in it, so all you have to do is tap the middle hole! TAP FROM THE BOTTOM UP. You want this to screw onto your tripod.

What does it mean by tapping the hole ?

Thank you.

Opteka Slider Specs

Opteka has an inexpensive 23" and a 47" slider with the Igus rails and carriers. I doubt it uses the 1660 or 1080 rails, but does anyone know for sure?

I've emailed the seller so maybe I'll be able to report back.

Any thoughts or concerns?

personal,
I am trying to set up my slider, moving home to find a shade thrown on the basement and am considering using it, but I'm out of ideas on how to build a basis for setting the camera. Could anyone give me a help on how to build a base or would you rather use another track?
hugs

That's not igus rail. There are a bunch of knock-off on the internet. Doesn't look like it slides very well...and there's no way to adjust it.
(notice the carriage & glideblocks are one piece)

Hi all - very late starter to this tread but I was thinking of a locking mechanism - to fix the the slide "securely" in horizontal mode or for angled or vertical shooting.

It would require a slightly longer carriage plate mounted onto the 100mm carriage (or it could be added to the 150mm carriage) with a spring loaded plunger pin fitted to the extended portion of the plate that would pin down into the centre line of the rail. Pre determined pin holes could be drilled into the rail along its length. Pull pin up and twist to unlock - turn pin and drop to lock - A pin similar to this -- http://www.jwwinco.com/products/section10/gn717-ni/index.html

Does anyone use the Manfrotto 501HDV head directly mounted to the carriage and if so are you able to pan fully? Looks to me like the base would knock against the carriage screw heads perhaps?

Cheers.

I use it all the time... but my ZazaSlider Carriage plates have 8 counter-bored holes for the glide blocks, so everything is flush on the top!

If you're using the igus carriage plate, just use 4 bolts (in the counter-bored holes).

Can you pan and tilt while sliding with the Igus Hybrid carriage? When I pan and tilt with my regular Igus carriage it gets sticky and the shots hickup a lot.

Yes.... but you should be able to do the same with the regular carriage (I do all the time). Make sure you have your rig centered on the carriage, that is key. If you're doing extreme tilting, you can still put too much weight over the edge of the carriage causing it to bind. Make sure your sliding hand is low on the carriage too.

Also, make sure you realign your carriage every now & again...and clean the rail with "Pledge" (furniture polish). I still use my original slider and have found that they actually slide better over time!

I used to use IGUS, Its NOW A THING IN THE PAST. Nothing against ZAZAsliders but I am just speaking the truth.
Varavon has a really nice affordable one here http://cheesycam.com/varavon-slidecam-lite-video-demo/ and also konova http://www.ebay.com/sch/konovacamer...&_sticky=1&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_sop=10&_sc=1

Now they go for like $300. You can't beat that....the bearings make a huge difference. There are some that have bearings that shake but Konova makes a quality built slider. I am now thinking on getting a Varavon very soon for traveling light.
