DIY IndieSlider...

Do you find that the center of gravity becomes too high to keep the rig stable with that bogen ball adapter?

I'm considering buying that bogen ball adapter and mounting it on the slider and then buy a half ball and mount it underneath the slider. That way I can pretty quickly go from being just on the tripod to being on the slider on the tripod without any tools. If it's too high and makes the rig less stable, I may just get a bogen 501 head or something and keep it mounted on the slider.

i think its ok, but for everything to be smooth i'm pushing on the adapter itself to slide the rig. that's the config i will be using it with.

Hey are you building these for people for a fee? I think I would be interested.

Actually, I was talking to my wife about that last night. I'm thinking of making a few and putting them up online to see what happens.

... If you start selling these, I want my cut...the idea was for people to build their own. It's really easy...thus the post!

(you shouldn't mess with another man's rubarb...)

@ ZazaCast,
lol...!!!
i'll write up the contract for your percentage!
:)

GREAT... lets see... research & development, design, instructions, supplier...I'd say 80/20 is fair.

I'll be donating my 80% to a good cause...perhaps to a fellow DVXuser www.Isara.org. I'm sure you'll be more than glad to help them out too?

hey guys...

hey guys...

just read the whole thread. as per usual thanks for posting this stuff ;)

I'm gonna order the zazadiyslider parts list tomorrow AM.

Hey dude - did you get a price from THK - that curved track looks very cool - even their straight track looks a little "cooler" than the IGus stuff.

Anyway - will post pictures as soon as I have the bits assembled.

Zaza, I would like to say Thanks! I bought the Igus parts and it works great. Maybe the THK stuff is more sophisticated, but the Igus is connecting simplicity with effectiveness, and you dont need to be DIY to complete it.
We know, the sky is the limit, but I am really satisfied with that.

It looks like I have something to do tomorrow!

Thanks everyone, I'm glad to see you guys getting some use out of this stuff!
...and Luis...get to work. HA! (please be sure to post some pictures & video when you're done)

Note: I haven't had time yet to look into the THK stuff...but I'll get there soon. I'd like to have a little curved track slider.

Mine came in as well. Was surprised how long the box was at first - thought I had ordered the wrong part or they shipped me a longer rail. Only had 1 small issue, I had to adjust one of the, not sure what to call them, slide guides? It was crooked so it wouldn't slide on to the rail properly.

Someone from IGUS called to ask what business I'm in and that my catalog, that I had requested, was on its way. Told him he might be getting more orders from other Filmmakers soon. :)

I heard that using silicone spray is the best way to keep this thing smooth and running well? Is that true?

I haven't had to spray anything on mine so far...I really don't think you have to with these self-lubrication glides.

Well, a couple of observations :
1) The Drylin needs a really sturdy tripod to hold the weight - the slider shifts and bows if you do not have it (depending how long your slider is)
2) End pieces are also necessary as well and they should be able to hold weight.
So far, it works pretty good all in all.

Can someone please just give me the exact link to order from? I like what I see in the first page of this and I want that exact setup. ZaZa cast? anyone, thanks.

blue there isn't one, you have to put in the info of what you want, then it will creat an image of your order, then you order it. its a very convoluted ordering program, you can also order over the phone, I did, and found it much easier.

Zaza left to right is the normal direction, it tells the viewer, everything is ok, we read left to right, its natural

right to left dollys and pans, tell the viewer something unexpected is about to happen like a masked man with a chainsaw is about to jump out and start slashing people. you'll see right to left a lot in horror movies, and mysteries.
