DIY IndieSlider...

Thanks for the help!

I saw the making of videos from that guy yesterday and it is very complex and and too much for me. I have got some ideas of what I need to do in regards to motorizing and programming for time lapses so I'll have to give it a shot. Is ordering right from Igus still the best way to get the parts needed for the slider? How are they with shipping to Canada?

The EASIEST way to order from me...ready to go! ;-) ...but yes, igus has an Amazon page. Make sure you get the 16-60 rail. Then be sure to get some cutting oil for tapping, makes life much easier.
I put a downloadable PDF of build instructions here: http://www.zazaslider.com/support.html

the circular bearings I was playing with a few years ago were kind of loud and didn't offer enough resistance for smooth starts & stops.
(something to think about, really easy sliding isn't always the best thing)

Can we please make that statement a sticky? For all those folks who absolutely want super easy ball bearings?
I build my first slider some years ago with those linear ball bearings and special rods.
Beside the noise (I would be able to handle that) I never got a smooth shot.

You defiantly want (and need) the damping, that the Igus slide provides.
If you don't get smooth start/stop/sliding, than practice.
You have to practice with a steadycam too - nobody with a sane mind ,expects everyone and his kid brother to handle a
steadycam like the pros on day one - same with the slider.

I know, most folks don´t want to hear that, but it takes some time till you master it.

end of rant - frank

They don't seem to ship to my country and our Igus distributor sells those two parts for 430$! I think I have to go with seom other slider :(

I ship to the UK all the time... believe it or not, it's still cheaper then other professional sliders out there. Are you sure they add $85.00 in Taxes & duty? That seems very high.
You might want to checkout Glidetrack, they are in your neck of the woods and use igus parts.

Here's my first test on my zaza slider... I got the parts via igus direct, worked best to call them and order over the phone. I used the end stops seen on the first page of this thread, works well. I would like to figure out the best means of I guess putting a quick release on my tripod, so that it'll be easier to transport. I mounted an extra 501 head on the carriage. Would like to add a handle to the carriage, and some sort of rests for the end, to get ground shots.

Looks good Javapop...Happy sliding!

If you just get a QR plate & bracket, you can mount the plate on the bottom of the rail...and the plate on the tripod.
...or, just get a second plate that fits the head you have on the tripod, just make sure you lock the head's tilt if going this route so your camera doesn't go sliding off the end!

There's end-stop solutions Here: http://www.zazaslider.com/instructions.html just add a few neoprene washers for a 'soft landing'.

Thanks Zaza!
I did use that end stop method, that works great. Brought it to a wedding yesterday. Was kinda tricky to maneuver around.
Here's my setup:
Manfrotto 351MVB with 503HDV head. Mounted the slider to the tripod... here's a picture.

Can you recommend a QR Plate and Bracket that may work for my system?
Wuld this perhaps work: Vanguard PQ-45 or 46
I'll be using an XHA1s in addition.
Thanks again! java
(btw... this is actually one of my older tripods, with a 501 head - same weight and design though)

I'd get something like this: http://www.manfrotto.us/product/8709.56.76907.0.0/577/_/Rapid_Connect_Adapter_with_Sliding_Mounting_Plate_%28501PL%29
It uses the same plate as your 501 head.

...Or...: http://www.manfrotto.us/product/870...ect_Adapter_with_Sliding_Mounting_Plate_357PL

Thanks again Zaza,

Guess I am trying to figure out the best portable method that can be put together, and taken apart, so I don't end up carrying around the slider mounted on tripod the whole day.... but can have it available as needed close by.

I like the idea of having a QR bracket for the slider itself; but if I do that.... then need to use the tripod without the slider, that would be a little complicated. What would you suggest, or have seen typically with using the slier, perhaps for a wedding videographer? I am lovin' this thing!!!!

I don't think so... but you could always call them and ask...(but I'm pretty sure it doesn't).
