DIY Ikan F3 follow focus parts

The Huco gearboxes are both available from RS Components.

The one with plastic gears is RS stock number 748-443 and is £11.05 +VAT, and the one with the metal gears is RS stock number 748-437 and is £19.01+ VAT.

Both have nominal shaft diameter of 4.0mm(3.988mm) and are designed for an interference fit for 3.9mm gears etc.

You can order by mail from RS components, although I think their P& P can be a bit pricey. Most big cities have a branch you can visit and buy over the counter.

Here is the link for the metal geared version, it has all the specs available, as it is identical to the plastic gear version the specs will apply to the other one as well.

Did anyone else use this thread to make a DIY Follow Focus? How is it working out for you? Is there any backlash (play/give) if you use the Huco L-box with steel gears? How bad is the backlash or give or play?
Which gearbox should I get? Huco or the other one from the Maplin website?

I need the community's advice for a good solution for a cheap, but reliable DIY follow focus, cause I'm either gonna spend £40 building this DIY FF based on Huco gearbox (which might end up eigher having too much backlash and being unreliable, OR might turn out to be as good as a Redrock Micro FF), or spend £75 on RJ or FOTGA follow focus.
