diy ground glass with toothpaste

I was just thinking, for anyone trying to make a diy ground glass (or diy adapter). Using toothpaste as an abbrasive might make you an extremely fine grain glass. (It will also smell minty fresh!)

I think he means the scarlet...

There was that thing on mythbusters when they used toothpaste to polish the cup in the bottom of a drink can, but it took ages. Might take you a while, maybe you could build a machine to rub it for you or something..

I tried to grind a plastic CD with a special soap that is used to clean oil stains from hands. I managed to get a slight diffusion, but it was not nearly enough to be used in an adapter.

There is a metal polisher my friends, that is used by geeks like me to polish a CPU after finishing off sanding it down... both these things if done on a flat surface like a good glass pane allow for the CPU to be much flatter than from the Intel factory... this in turn allows for better heat transfer to the CPU cooler and allows for higher Voltage which in turn makes for higher clocks... faster computers... ok, so BACK IN SUBJECT, the polish should be tough enough yet fine enough to give you some serious diffusion...unless it was too fine

Why dont you take your bit of glass to a company that does grit/shot blasting and ask them to use their finest blasting media. I got a really fine grain grit blasting some glass with very fine aluminium oxide powder...

that would be too much of the proper way to do it... then not a BIY... and no bragging rights to go along with it
:banned:

Mm good point. What about finding that chemical paste they use to etch car windows. Im sure you can buy that on ebay or something and just rub it onto some glass...

No I was talking about a 35mm adapter for Red, So you can get that promist -static grain look that only a toothpaste 35mmadapter can give.

That was just an experiment you understand, never a serious adapter. I was just seeing what coudl be done with some free lenses and some picture frame glass. The motor was from a CD player, I just took the knobby bit that goes in the mdidle of the CD and araldited it to the center of the glass disk. I printed out a cross on abit of paper to help me align it and it was nearly central.

I was ever so slightly concerned that the minimal vibrations would break the disk free and it would fly across the room, smash, then give me several deep lacerations.

Well I saw some serious adapters, those like yours but made sturdy into PBC pipe! the thing mounted on and took a lens! hehe

HAHA... death by killer DOF

That'll take you a LONG time to finish. There ARE special abrasive powders that are readily accessible for use in grinding a ground glass.
