DIY follow focus for Manfrotto's Fig Rig

Awesome, thanks for that informative video.

On ebay, I see a blue vs black version of the Fotga whip. I guess only the blue one works (since it has the 15mm rod portion) while the black one does not?

Yes the blue is the right whip. You need to saw the whip to the right size. But it's easy to remove the square accessory connector with an Allen key. And you can put lubricant on the rod portion for a smooth turn.

Bruno, many thanks for the new video: it inspired me to buy a Fotga whip and to set up my Figrig (which has been gathering dust the last two years, due to focusing limitations) along similar lines. The only difference I have made is to put less of a curve in the whip, so it is more like a normal whip (albeit very short and held stable by the magic arm, which is fitted to the curved frame of the figrig) - this helps with lenses with longer focusing throws since you can take the focusing hand off the figrig and simply hold the whip knob (securely located by the magic arm) direct. Cheers, Roland
