hi guys..

i need to have shot in my short film...the actor must lit himself up for 5-10 sec (attempting for suicide).the surrounding ppl will safe him then. since it's low budget short cant afford to hire stunt guy..

any DIY or compositing ideas ?

This is why I tell people to write a film they can make.

I would not under any circumstances do this practically. Do it in the computer. Post an ad on craigslist or something that you're looking for a CGI artist to comp fire onto a person. Get them involved before you shoot the scene, as they might need it shot a certain way depending on their skill level.

CGI fire is pretty easy to generate (I use Particle Illusion) - the difficulty is compositing the fire to match the actor's body, as the actor's unlikely to be conveniently still.

Rethink your shots - someone's trying to set themself on fire, fine, but why do we actually need to see flames? If someone pours flammable liquid (from a conveniently labelled container) over themself then tries to light it, it will be pretty obvious to everyone what's happening, there's no need for it to succeed.

thx for the replies.. yesterday i tried calling a friend of mine who workin in fire department. too bad he also said there is no other ways to accomplish this shot besides hiring a stunt double.

anyway i'm not goin to do it practically as it is too dangerous..

will try to play around with particle illusion or fxlab ?
