DIY Chinese Lantern Holder

Here's a guide for making DIY lantern holders from lamp parts.

See photos for parts list. All parts except wire & plug were ordered
here www.txlampparts.com/index.html

Parts are VERY reasonable!!! & they cut the 3' threaded rod into 10''
pieces for me. I made two sizes, 18'' & 24''. You MAY need a longer
rod if you go with a lantern larger than 24''. I ended up ordering via
phone-some parts I did not see online.

The 18'' lantern worked with a 14'' lamp harp(that's the tallest I could find online) With the 24'' lantern, I had to make an extender via the lantern
spreader that came with the lantern (See photo). You will need to remove the threaded
rod that holds the shade, and bend the harp a bit to make it fit the lantern
opening. You will need to solder the parts that hold the harps to the saddles
so they will not slide off.

These take some work to put together, but these will hold a lantern AND you can hang material via the 6'' "spider" to diffuse or flag the lantern.

Hi, Bruce

I’m following your plans to make a lighting stand for a china ball from dvxuser.com

See: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?200640-DIY-Chinese-Lantern-Holder

The porcelain socket I ordered was Part#: TR-102 from Texas Lamp Mfg.

Was this the right part?

If so, what bulb are you using to light your ball?

I’d appreciate your help because your idea is fantastic! I just need some help building this thing.

Do you have a picture of how you have used the 6” spider and the converted 6” lamp harp bracket as shown in

Thanks in advance.

I would appreciate your help!
