DIY c-stand/diffusion screen stand?

Okay, I've made some DIY diffusion screens using Photoflex 39"x39" material and PVC for the frames. These work well. However, I've yet to figure out a good way to make an adjustable stand for them. I have a couple of mic stands and they do okay with clamps, but they're still not that sturdy even with sandbags. I've thought of using 1/2 or 3/4" PVC as a post (the adjustability coming from the clamps), but am not sure what to use as a base. Of course, it'd also be nice to be able to angle the screens in case I want to bounce some light off the ceiling. Can't afford real c-stands at the moment, so does anyone have any ideas? I suspect you do.

Thanks,

Fox

Hmmmm. Well, I am supposed to go to New York next Sunday for a big shoot. Maybe the production company will through in some C-stands since we gave them such a big job. Although this tactic didn't work on the last shoot when I asked for a follow focus. ;)
