DIY butterfly frame?

I didn't post this under the sticky because I have no interest in making my own scrims and frabrics, but rather I'd like to make my own frame and then just buy the standard Matthews fabrics. I mean, the cheapo Matthews frame is $250 and then the good ones are like $400+, and it's just steel or aluminum, seems like something you could DIY and still have it look decent, especially with the pro fabrics.

Has anyone done this?
 
There is a thread about it somewhere on here, maybe even in the DIY forum. If you dig deep enough you could find it.
