DIY 35mm focus screen, Nikon D type?

I have a DIY vibrating adapter 'finished' but I'm not very satisfied with the ground glass that I have in it right now. For a couple of reasons, but the main reason being the amount of grain. It's just some generic ground glass I found somewhere and it's just too grainy.

So I was thinking about picking up a Nikon D focusing screen, but before I spend the money on one I wanted to clear a few things up.

1. Do you need to do any additional sanding/modifications to the Nikon D screen before it's ready? Or can it go right into your ground glass holder as is?

2. I've seen something about the Nikon D screen for the F3? Is that the specific screen I should get or will any Nikon D type screen work?

3. Is there a circular pattern in the middle of the screen, will that effect the image?

Thanks for any help you might be able to give me.

I have a spare nikon F3 type D for sale.
Brand new in the box. There is no circular pattern.
it is an overall matte surface with fine grain.
It comes in its own frame with a condenser lens on one side.
I used a nikon F3 type D in my DIY adapter with excellent results.
My adapter is also for sale. See post with video examples.

Yes the condenser does matter because it eliminates the hotspot of bright light in the middle and eliminates (or at least reduces) vignetting. The condenser actually works the same way as a fresnel lens on a stage light. It diffuses the light and spreads it out which, in this case, takes some brightness from the center of the image and adds it to the outer edges.
