DivX how to edit?

Loaded a DivX file in Vegas, but it will encount error, and says need some kind of codec(DivX codec or something).

After I installed the DivX codec, only the sound loads into Vegas, no picture.....

How to edit DivX files? .... anyone?:crybaby:

Installed/restarted, didn't work; still have the error message.
The RAD video thing worked for small files like a 4meg divX file, after convert came out to 800+ megs, but for larger files it doesn't work; video don't play after converting a larger file.
how to now.....?
 
Why do they make such **** file as DivX that have no compatibility with anything else???? How do you guys edit this kind of crap file? sory.. but this stupid file format is annoying!!
 
Not sure if this'll help, but you could also try:

--Checking what film format your hard drives are in. FAT32 has a limitation of 4GB (or 2GB). NTFS has a really really huge limitation, so it can be more useful for video editing.
--RAD Video Tools can covert with compression... huffyuv (you can download this for free I believe), ?animation?, or DV would work. DV is not the best quality but it'll likely work.
Cineform may also be a good choice if you have Vegas 6.
 
Interestingly, if you have the codec installed, you can do the conversion in Windows Movie Maker. People don't give that little freebie enough credit sometimes.

1st, thx! My drives are NTFS, you are right when I converted to a large file, it came out 4G.... max, but my file system is NTFS....:furious3:
Also... is Cineform a plugin for Vegas so can edit DivX files?
 
Maybe the 4GB limit is a limitation of RAD video tools, or the AVI format it's using. In any case, you could also try Windows Movie Maker.

The Cineform codec comes with Vegas 6 I believe.
