I have been looking at the Tascam HD-P2 and the Sound Designs 722t and was wondering if any of you have used either of these two recorders and what your opinions are. They both are good machines and have similar features but the SD722 is over twice as much money but it has a 40 gig hard drive built in. They both can use compact
flash and both can read time code. The SD722 can output timecode as well. I have talked to Greg at Oade.com who puts an upgrade kit into the HD-P2 and he says for stereo recordings its better and better for ambient sounds. He says that the SD is better for Dialogue recording. I am interested if any of you have experience with the two of these units.
Also Korg is just releasing the MR-1000 which is a true 1bit recorder for field work and is $1149. It looks pretty good but doesn't have timecode but does have phantom power and a 40gig hard drive and the front end looks easy to use. 1 bit recording is certianly they way to go for quality and I like the look of this unit so I might end up getting this one. Anyone looked at it?
I have talked to a couple of people that seem to think that with digital recorders timecode is not as needed as it once was because they don't drift like recorders use to.
I was wondering if its really still a must to have and since the HVR200 doesn't input or output timecode if its that much of a issue. Or how would one use timecode with the HVX200 to lock it up?
