distribution questions

Hi.

I was offered a "Distribution Deal" for a documentary I did on Ultra-Orthodox Standup
Comedian, Yisrael Campbell here in Israel. The distributor didn't offer any $$ up front and
I'm wondering is that is normal...They take 40% of gross receipts. I started looking into
lawyers to go over the contract, but most want a retainer in the thousands of dollars - seems
a lot for this low budget film...Any suggestions for good and resonable entertainment lawyers
out there?

Thanks!

David

The $ advance that you get is likely all the $ you'll ever see. If you give some distributor your film for no $ in advance, you'll probably never see any return at all.

Check www.marklitwak.com for an entertainment attorney who works with indie filmmakers a lot.
