Distant Traffic...

Hey so one of the scenes from a short I'm doing Sound Editing on has some traffic noise in the background... the thing is, some of the shots have the sound and others don't depending on the traffic.

Is there a way to remove whirling traffic sounds (it just sounds like wind kind of, like cars driving by)? Or would you recommend that I stitch some white noise over the non-trafficky stuff?

Thanks

First thing I would try would be to get some of that traffic sound from the takes that have it, and lay it beneath the tracks that don't. Not sure plain white noise will match very closely.

If the production team did not get any room tone my best suggestion is to go out with the same audio gear and record some traffic to cover your scenes.

Traffic is not RT.

You have some choices depending on the tracks. If it is just a really steady roar then you can probably go record some and lay it in. If (more likely) you have car by's that are getting cut off, you need to get some car by's and cut them in so that the car doesn't sound like it's cut off. You may also need to lay in some over all "roar".

And no you really can't get rid of traffic sound. It's constantly changing and that will defeat any noise reduction you throw at it.
