Disposable Video Cameras

Hmm, interesting! Solid state I imagine. And they can recycle the cards and the batteries for a long time. Should be pretty profitable for the company, cause you know people are going to dig it.

Did you see the quote at the end of that article?

"George Lucas isn't going to use this to shoot Star Wars IV," he said, "but a budding George Lucas may use this to shoot something in his backyard."

Didn't Lucas already shoot Episode IV? hehe

Could be interesting for wedding receptions. Buy 10 of them and pass them around. Other than that not too sure about the market.

Sounds like a repackaged version of Panasonic's AVWear (or whatever they called it)... a little $400 camera that shot MPEG-4 video to an SD card. I don't know how well it sold, but for disposable/rental use it might be practical...

I wonder about the hacking possibilities. I think I'll buy one and open it up. The thought of spending 12.95 to get flash memory "developed" is laughable, but if you can easily offload the footage, then it might be a fun little toy.

It would make a great little camera for something like model rockets or remote controlled airplanes......
You know, places where the DVX is too big or too dangerous to risk.

they are going to loose tons of money if a lot of people buy the camera and take it apart or figure out how to offload it themselves... I'm going to buy one just to see whats in it.

I don't really see that happening much. My guess is that the demographic they are going for has a fair amount of disposable income. They want the convenience and are willing to pay for it. I'm not saying that hackers won't be among the customer base, but I think they will be a small percentage.

I disagree, assuming that someone finds a way to easily download from them and/or there are new products that have similar use/function I could easily see hordes of college students buying these or other large groups/gatherings wanting them, while circumventing the $12 "developing" for each camera.
