is there a way to shut off all menu-items(text) in the LCD display when im composing a shot?
sometimes it would be nice not to have see all that crap.(well..it's not really crap.)

Sure there is.

Press MENU.
Under Display Setup, set the following settings to off (or the leave the info you want to on):
DATE/TIME
LEVEL METER
ZOOM-FOCUS
TAPE-BATTERY
OTHER DISPLAY

Then leave the menu and press the Counter buttom until the counter dissapears completely.

You now have a completely clean LCD.
