display advice

Hi,

Is anyone using screens other than (ie cheaper than) the apple cinema displays. Im wanting to set up a FCP suite and I'm looking for a largeish HD monitor. I've heard a lot about the dell monitors, has anyone got any advice?

I'm using the Dell 24 and love it. Great computer monitor.

The general consensus on the dell is that it's great as a computer monitor, horrible as a video monitor, so pick your poision...

I recommend the panny 17" LCD broadcast montior..for several reasons.
Inputs everything, SDI, YC, BNC etc.
Built in waveform.
Accurate color.
Great field monitor as well.
It's about 2600.00 but WELL worth it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Opinions are very welcome. At the moment Im looking at a pair of the Dells plus a CRT TV for reference. Im assuming that one still needs a CRT to spot interlace flicker and strobing that wouldn't show up on a cpu monitor?

I've never used LCD displays and they have a wealth of imputs but I am assuming that they remain computer monitors regardless of what input is used rather than functioning as a TV display if you use a different input?

That sound as dumb as I think it does?
