Dismantling a Nikkor lens

Anyone here ever opened a front lens element from a Nikkor lens and cleaned it up?

(fungus on the back of the front element of a f2.8/ 28mm Nikkor MF)

I am only vaguely considering doing it my self ...but otherwise I will send it to a camera tech.

Yes. You'll need a lens spanner wrench and no exactly where each optics goes if you're not careful. If there is fungus on the inside of the lens, it is most likely dead. Most of the time depending on how bad the fungus is and how long it has sat, it eats right thru the coatings.

Another thing to watch out for depending on the lens is the reverse threads when taking apart a lens. You can really lose yourself here and would suggest to have it professionally cleaned if it holds value to you.
