Disguising faces in FCP

I was wondering the best method to fuzz faces out so they remain anonymous. How do the pros do it?

Anyone got a good technique?

thanks,

Well it depends what it's for- for legal issues or for a cool effect? It's pretty much masking with blur filter. There's a couple of plugins out there that automate the process- I'm thinking a google for CHV or Joe's Filters would be a step in the right direction.

u got aftr effects? make a mask aand position keyframe it and follow the actors face...then adda blur or a pixelate filter

in fcp, u cud add a matte, keyframe that to their face, and then add a blur

more easier in a.e id say

Send your clip to motion, and add a Circle Blur filter.
Then automate the Center parameter, with keyframes
or tracking. You can keyframe the size if necessary.

You can do it in FCP or Motion. I just watched a tutorial on my iPOD (free Final Cut Pro tutorials on iTUNES) on how to disguise someone's face using Motion.

In FCP say you have a person where you need to cover their face. Well make an exact duplicate of the clip on V1 and place it on V2. Add a Gaussain Blur to the V2 clip. Go into your Filters tab and adjust the blur to your liking.

Now add a 4 or 8 point Garbage matte to the same clip on V2. Go to the FILTERS tab again and scroll down to Garbage matte options. Click the + sign for number 1, then go over to your Canvas window and drag the number 1 down. Repeat this process for all numbers until you have the blur right above the person's face. Since you have the same clip on 2 tracks. When your start adjusting the matte, the V2 track which has NO filters on it will be clear and in focus.

Does this make sense?

Still on V2 go into the Motion tab of this clip. Play around with opacity and Feather which is in the Crop drop down.

Now it gets tricky if this person is moving their head a lot or moving in general. In this case you need to keyframe every move just about which keeps the blur on the person's face.

In MOTION you can actually record the keyframes which seems to be an easier task!

All above correct except now in motion 3 you can simply use the tracking tool to move the mask.
