Disappearing SFX

Hey Guys and Gals,

Not sure that this is the right place for this, but here goes. I'm shooting a short for school over the next week or so (it's due November 8th) and it requires a couple of simple (I hope) SFX.

There are two SFX shots. One involves a guy throwing a piece of paper into the corner of a wall, and the paper disappearing into it. The second involves the same actor portraying two characters in the same frame. Does anyone know what would be required to create this effect? Anyone willing to help me out for a big FAT credit?

Another board member, who did an awesome job creating a final matte shot for my last short, thinks he can do it; but there's a chance he won't have time, so I'm appealing to you. I can send to the script to anyone willing to help, if that will clarify exactly what I'm looking for. I have a really short time frame to get this done in, so any help you guys could lend sooner rather than later would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks!

As for the second shot, it's an easy lock-out.

Have the camera on a stand and shoot twice with the actor in different places. Put the two shots above eachother in the sequence and crop one so you can see both. (Remember not to touch lights or camera between shots.

About the disapearence, depends... If you want the wall/florr to "eat" the paper - I dunno. If you want it just to "go away" - use a simmilar aproach, with one shot without the paper, and one with and make the shot with the paper the "top" shot and reduce opacity of that shot toward zero.

If there's actors in the shot, you'll need to make the disappearing shot with a clean plate (noone in) and you can just mask out the parts you don't need.

Here you'll fade the opacity of the top level (without the paper) in.

For simplicity: Watch them shadows...

It could be an idea to have some feathering around your masks, just play around and have fun untill you're happy.

Thanks for the tip! However I'm really kinda looking for someone to give the footage to, who could help me do it. Any chance you'd be interested?
